Privacy Policy

Reuse South County is a free community guide to reuse in Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy, California. It lists places and events, lets neighbors post garage sales, and helps neighbors ask for or give away things for free. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
Garage sale posts
When you post a garage sale, we collect the sale address, town, dates and hours, what you're selling, and an email or phone number. We check every post before it appears. Your address appears on the site and map only if you tick "Show my sale on the map", and only from when we post it until your sale ends; otherwise we show your town only. Your email or phone is never shown, and we use it only to reach you about your post. We delete your sale details within 30 days after your sale ends. We also list sales we find in public posts, such as on Nextdoor. If the seller included the address in a public post, we may show it with a link to the original post. To change or remove a sale, write to hello@reusesouthcounty.org.
Requests and offers
When you ask for something or offer something, we collect your name, your email or phone, your area, and the details of the item. We use it only to find a match or to point you to a local charity or group. We never show your name, phone, email, or address publicly. With your permission, we may post a request in local groups, without your name. Email hello@reusesouthcounty.org anytime to remove it.
Text messages
If you choose "text" as your contact method, we send SMS messages related only to your own request — a match alert when a neighbor is giving away an item you asked for, and a reminder if you have not confirmed. Message frequency is low and varies with your activity; you will typically receive only a few messages, and only in response to your own submissions. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time; reply HELP for help.
AI help
To describe items from a photo and to suggest matches, we use an AI service from Anthropic. It receives only the item photo, the item name and description, and the general area. It never receives your name, phone number, email, or address.
Where your information is kept
Form answers are stored in our Google Sheets, and item photos in our Google Drive. Emails about your post or request are sent from our Google account. Garage sale posts are stored in our Google Sheets too.
Sharing
We don't sell or share your contact details with anyone.
Your location
If you tap "Near me" on the map, your browser asks for your location. It is used only on your device to center the map. We never receive or store it.
Maps, fonts, and links
To show the map, your browser loads map images from CARTO, which are based on OpenStreetMap data, and our fonts load from Google Fonts. Like any website, these services receive your IP address when your browser asks for them. When you send a form, or when a page loads the garage sale list, your browser connects to Google (script.google.com), which runs our forms. Tapping "Directions" opens Google Maps in a new tab. Links to Facebook, Nextdoor, Craigslist, and other sites take you to places with their own privacy policies.
No tracking
We don't use ads, analytics, or tracking cookies. The site remembers your language choice (English or Spanish) in your own browser.
Emails to us
If you write to hello@reusesouthcounty.org, we use your message only to answer you.
Your choices
Reply STOP to any text to stop messages, HELP for help. You may also email hello@reusesouthcounty.org to update or remove your information, including a garage sale post.
